Tooth whitening

The natural colour of teeth is usually within a range of light grey to yellow shades. Teeth usually naturally darken with age or from the accumulation of surface stains acquired from the consumption of staining foods and beverages such as coffee, tea, colas and red wine. Discolouration may also result with the use of tobacco products. Although teeth are not meant to be completely white, with the influence of Hollywood and the entertainment industry, many people desire a whiter smile. Stains may either be on the surface of the enamel or intrinsic and incorporated into the tooth structure. At Brisebois Dental, there are various options of tooth whitening available to our patients including ZOOM whitening, custom made bleaching trays and take home bleaching kits.

ZOOM Whitening

Zoom is an in-office whitening system that utilizes light activated whitening hydrogen peroxide gel. As the hydrogen peroxide is broken down via light activation, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin layer of the teeth and bleach the coloured substances while the structure of the tooth is left unchanged. This method of whitening is ideal for patients who want to obtain a whiter smile in a few short hours.

Take home bleaching kits

Our office offers Crest Whitestrips: Supreme Professional Whitening kit available for purchase. Since this system consists of a higher concentration of the active bleaching ingredient, it is only available when obtained from a dental clinic and cannot be purchased in stores.

Custom bleaching trays

It is common that patients will accidently get the bleaching agent on their gums when using take home bleaching kits or store bought kits. To avoid this, our office offers the option of having a custom bleaching tray made. Impressions are taken of the upper and lower teeth and a soft plastic tray is made from the molds that custom fit tightly over the teeth. The bleaching gel is then placed directly into the trays and placed over the teeth. This method is effective in preventing the bleaching agent from getting on the gums.
